I have a BS in Geography and MSc in Public Heath both from the University of Porto (Portugal). Now I am doing a PhD in Public Health at the same university. In between degrees I have worked as a research assistant in the Epidemiology Department of University of Porto and in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the same city.
My PhD project aims to examine if the characteristics of the place of residence affect measures of active/healthy ageing, such as physical activity, and longevity. By characteristics of the place of residence I mean attributes of the physical and socioeconomic environment. I am supervised by Professor Maria de Fátima de Pina from University Porto and Professor Marilia Sá Carvalho from FIOCRUZ (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). During the 3 month period I will stay in Glasgow University under Professor Rich Mitchell’s supervision to develop an index of environmental deprivation for Portugal.
